Description

B751 from Kilmaurs by Crosshouse to Gatehead. According to the 1774 description it followed A759 through Gatehead and then the minor road past Fortacres farm to Symington and the A77. This latter part is omitted from the 1827 description.

In the Road Acts

1774: The road from Kilmaurs by Corsehouse Bridge and Oldroomford through Symington, till it joins the Road between Ayr and Kilmarnock.
1805: [Omitted].
1827: The road from Kilmaurs by Corsehouse Bridge and Old Romeford, through Symington, till it join the road between Ayr and Kilmarnock, that is, that part thereof which lies betwixt Kilmaurs and Little Gatehead, passing through the parish of Kilmaurs.

MS Summary

Two milestones between Kilmaurs and Crosshouse. None have been found between Crosshouse and Gatehead. However a direction stone belonging at the junction near Gatehead is in the collection at Montgreenan and is shown below.

Dundonald L 2 miles 7 furlongs 176 yards.

Crosshouse R 1¼ miles 51 yards

Kilmaurs 3 miles 3 furlongs 66 yards.

 

The original location was at the junction of T33 with T32 (the National Grid Reference is NS393365). In modern terms it is the junction of the A759 and B751. This is one of The Montgreenan Milestones.
